About Library

The College has a library with nearly Twelve thousand volumes in all the relevant subjects and subscribes nearly 50 journals. Good collections of reading material/ resources are also available exclusively on Andaman & Nicobar Islands/ Islands Studies. The Library has spacious reading room facilities for students and staff. The facility for the use of internet for the faulty and students are also provided in the Library. The reprography facilities are also provided to the library users on a nominal charge. The entire Library resource materials are being computerized and bar - coded.

Access to e-Resources (e-Books e-Databases and e-Journals) is going to be made available through UGC-INFONET. Users could access more than 31417 scholarly resources covering different subjects like Computer Science, Management, Arts and Humanities, etc.

Every student shall be given one Library Borrower's Card on admission. The can borrow three books at a time. The Library card shall be returned to the Library before the issue of Hall Ticket to appear in the University Examinations or at the time of applying for Transfer Certificate, whichever is earlier.

Silence shall be maintained in the Library premises. Mobile phones are not permitted in Library.

General Rules

  • Silence must be observed inside the library and loud talking is prohibited in all parts of the library. As the library is the place of individual study and research, members should conduct themselves to maintain and atmosphere conducive to this. Use of mobile phone inside the library is not permitted. Photography/ videography inside the library is prohibited normally, but special permission can be obtained.
  • Books should be handled with care. Marking on books is most objectionable and may lead to cancellation of membership privileges. MGGCM Library is following Open Access System and hence the members have the privilege of direct access to book shelves in the Stack and Reference and Reading Hall. It is important that the classified arrangements of books according to the numbers, is maintained in the shelves for the convenience of the members themselves. A book could be freely taken out of the shelves; on no account should they be re-shelved by the members as they lead to misplacement of books. Such books may be left on the nearest table and the same will be shelved by the Library Staff.
  • For better use of the Library, members can have help of the staff.
  • In case of any infringement of the above, the privilege of admission to library and borrowing books from the library will cease to exist.

    Library Rules (MGGCM)
    1. Loss of books:

    1. books reported to have been lost shall be either replaced by the latest edition or paid for at the latest price plus 25 percent or three time of the price of the book with fine within a period of one month.
    2. In case the book is out of print or rare and the latest price is not available, the Librarian will decide the amount to be charged.

    1. Over due :An overdue charge of 1/- (Rupee One) per day will be levied if a book is kept beyond the permissible period. In case the period exceeds one months, a fine of Re.2/- shall be charged per day from the borrower.


    2. An overdue changes of Rs. 2/- (Rupees two) will be levied if TEXT BOOK is kept beyond the due date.


    3. The Officer Incharge of Library is empowered to recall any book at any time if necessity arises


    4. Reference books, journals, magazines, rare books, books on Andaman & Nicobar Islands are not to be issued. These are to be referred in the Library room only.
    1. Page Cutting:


    1. The books issued to the library users should be returned in good condition. The library staff check the pages of the books which are returned on daily basis to ascertain as to whether any page is missing /cut etc is there or not and only after this activity the books are placed on the shelves. If any page is missing the borrower who had got the book issued last will be fined three times of the price of the book plus fine or the borrower has to replace the book of the same edition or new edition.
     

    Membership and Admission to the Library

     

     

    Admission to the Library is restricted to members, but others who are desirous in consulting the resources of the Library may do so with the permission of the principal / Officer Incharge of Library. Permissions can be refused without assigning any reasons thereof.

    The membership of the Library is open to the following categories:

    The following persons are entitled to draw book from the College Library:


    1. Members of the teaching staff.
    2. Non-teaching staff of the College.
    3. Bonafide students.

    Issue System
  • Borrower's Card method is used for issue of books to the students and Borrowers pass books are used for issue of books to teaching and non teaching staff. Whenever a transaction is done (issue and return of books), the Identity Card should be produced to the staff available in the Circulation Counter. No books will be issued to the students without production of College identity Cards.

  • Special care should be taken to see that the Membership Library Card/ Borrowers card is no misplaced or lost. In case of lose of Library card/ Borrowers card, it should be reported to the librarian immediately in writing. On receipt of such letter, the membership will be delinquent to avoid mis use of the lost Library Card / Borrowers card. The student who lost the Library Card and wish to apply for duplicate Library Card or Clearance Certificate should pay Rs. 20/- similarly if the staff member loss the Library Borrowers card he/she has to pay Rs. 20/- for a duplicate card.

  • No Dues Certificate
