‘Whiskers’ and crimson patch under root of tail are distinguishing features. Sexes alike. Prefers better-wooded localities, enters gardens and is usually tame and confiding. Its joyous querulous notes are more musical and readily distinguishable. It is also introduced in the Nicobar Islands.
