National Leprosy Eradication Programme

Under National Leprosy Eradication Programme: Under National Leprosy Eradication Programme, 10 Survey Education and Treatment (SET) 3 Urban Leprosy Centres and one 20 bedded Temporary Hospitalization Ward at Bambooflat continued to function. The new scheme of MDT introduced in the Andaman Dsi1rict with effect from 1994. Government of India has sanctioned Mobile Leprosy Treatment Unit to implement the regular MDT Scheme in Nicobar District. The performance during 2002-03 are as under:-

The sudden increase in number of new cases is a result of Modified Leprosy Elimination Campaign (MLEC). During MLEC, a rapid door to door survey to detect hidden cases of Leprosy in the community was carried out throughout this Union Territory from 21.8.2000 to 26.8.2000 and a total number of 45 new cases of Leprosy were detected during this six days survey period.
