Tuition, Examination, Hostel fee of Tsunami affected students to be met from
LG’s Relief Fund for one year
Andaman & Nicobar Administration has been extending different types of relief measures to the people affected by the earthquake followed by tsunami through relief packages. There is a demand from the tsunami affected people for the waiver of Tuition/Examination/Hostel fees of tsunami affected students undergoing higher education in various Govt./Private Colleges/Polytechnics in mainland as well as in A&N Islands since no relief has as yet been declared by the Govt. of India in this regard.
Considering the plight of the families affected by tsunami, Hon’ble Lt. Governor has decided that Tuition/Examination/Hostel fees of such affected students shall be met from the LG’s Relief Fund for a period of one year from the 26th December, 2004. This assistance shall be extended to students who are undergoing higher education at Degree/Diploma/Certificate Course level beyond 10th/12th Classes in Port Blair/ Mayabunder or in mainland, whether in Govt. or in Private Institutions.
All claims in this regard should be sent to the Secretary to Lt. Governor either by the student concerned or by the institution.
Where the student concerned is otherwise eligible for reimbursement or grants in respect of the Tuition/Examination/Hostel fees under any other scheme of the Administration, claim cannot be raised in respect of such amount. The student should give a declaration that he is not receipt of any such reimbursement or grant from any other source. The Head of the Institution will have to certify that the genuineness of the claim by the student concerned.
All such claims should be accompanied by a certificate issued by the area revenue authorities declaring that the concerned family has been affected by tsunami of 26th December, 2004.
All claims under this scheme shall be settled through Account Payee cheques drawn on the Institution concerned. Payments made under this scheme shall be in addition to the immediate cash relief of Rs.5000/- released from the Lt. Governor’s Relief Fund to such students prosecuting higher education in the mainland.
Sensitization programme on agricultural marketing infrastructure held
A sensitization programme on Scheme for Development/Strengthening of Agricultural Marketing Infrastructure, Grading and Standardization was organized at Hotel Megapode Nest on 9th May, 2005 by the National Institute of Agricultural Marketing (NIAM), Jaipur in collaboration with the Agriculture Department of Andaman and Nicobar Administration.
Shri R.P. Pal, Secretary (Industries & Civil Supplies), Andaman and Nicobar Administration inaugurated the programme as the chief guest. In his inaugural address, he stressed on the need for development of marketing infrastructure for agriculture and allied commodities for the benefit of farmers. He further said that the Andaman & Nicobar Administration will take maximum advantage of the newly launched scheme of Govt. of India and help the farming community in getting remunerative price of agricultural produce. He advised the participants to create awareness of this scheme in such a way that in the days to come it reaches every Panchayat so that farming community is benefited.
Dr. M.S. Jairath, Director, NIAM, Jaipur, outlined the programme and assured that all possible assistance will be extended to the farming community in setting up marketing infrastructure for pre-harvest as well as post harvest marketing, grading and standardization of their produces.
Shri D.K. Bazzaz, Director, Directorate of Marketing & Inspection explained the details of the scheme and operational guidelines and stated that the scheme provides back ended capital investment subsidy for promotion of agricultural marketing infrastructure where the role of financial institution is of utmost importance.
The programme concluded with vote of thanks proposed by Dr. S.K. Mukherjee, Director of Agriculture.
Hall tickets for second spell Board exams from May 12
All the private candidates who are going to appear in 2nd Spell Board Examinations of AISSE/AISSC Examinations-May-2005 are requested to collect their hall tickets from 12th May, 2005 onwards at the following Examination Centres. The hall tickets for private candidates will be issued according to the postal address given by the candidate from their respective area of the Examination Centres. However, hall tickets in respect of regular students will be issued from their own school only.
