State Commission’s sitting
Hon’ble Mr. Justice S.N. Bhattacharjee, President of State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (State Commission), A&N Islands will hold sitting of the Commission from 24th to 27th May, 2005 at Port Blair in the State Commission building, Directorate of Civil Supplies Complex, Port Blair. All the litigants whose matters are pending before the State Commission are informed to appear before the Commission on 24th May, 2005, failing which the matter will be heard and decided ex-parte according to law.
Assam Rifles conducts recruitment rally
As a contribution towards providing meaningful help and employment opportunities to the Tsunami hit populace of A & N Islands, the Assam Rifles conducted a recruitment rally from 1st May to 6th May, 2005.
The recruitment team of Directorate General Assam Rifles, which came from Shillong consisted of 6 officers and 30 other ranks. Approximately 450 candidates attended the rally, out of which 46 candidates passed the physical and medical tests.
Known as ‘Sentinels of the North East’, the Assam Rifles is the foremost para-military force of the country officered by Indian Army and cadre officers, is involved in counter insurgency operations in the North Eastern region. The force has displayed exemplary valour in counter insurgency operation in Jammu and Kashmir and Sri Lanka also.
The 168 years old force with a total strength of approximately 60,000 combat troops is recipient of the President’s colours. The force is presently headed by Lt. Gen. Bhopinder Singh, AVSM, Director General of Assam Rifles, with headquarters at Shillong, Meghalaya. It has 46 battalions and is involved in internal security.
Closure of road
The road from Corbyn’s Cove Agriculture staff quarters towards Austinabad junction will remain closed for all vehicular traffic for a period of 15 days w.e.f. 11.05.2005 due to filling up of earth for raising the height of the road.
