Zonal level All India Radio Station Directors conference in Port Blair

 

For the first time, the Zonal Level Station Directors Conference of All India Radio will be held in Port Blair, which would be inaugurated by the Chief Executive Officer of Prasar Bharati, New Delhi, Shri K.S. Sarma, at the Conference Hall of Dr B.R. Ambedkar Government Polytechnic on 20th May, 2005. The two-day conference would be attended by the Station Directors from the state headquarters of the South and West Zones such as Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Mumbai, Panaji, Pondicherry and Thiruvananthapuram besides Port Blair.

 

In the conference, the Station Directors would share their experience in promoting development communication for the welfare of the citizens. It would also be addressed by Shri Brijeshwar Singh, Director General and Shri K.N. Paul, Engineer-in-Chief and other senior officials of the All India Radio, New Delhi.  

 

Efforts on to curb menace of bootlegging

 

The A&N Police Department in their efforts to curb the menace of bootlegging have so far made a large haul of illicit liquor of 33,000 bottles (750 ml) and registered 1110 cases in the current year and arrested 1133 persons. A total of 72 working stills (bhattis) and around 200 lahan drums have been destroyed. The Police have also impounded as many as 27 vehicles which were used in the transportation of the liquor.

 

To further intensify its efforts the Police has requested the public to pass on authentic information about production/sale/transportation of illicit liquor on telephone nos. 100, 232405 and 233077.

 

Arrival of MV Swaraj Dweep

 

MV Swaraj Dweep is expected to arrive here from Chennai on 20th April, 2005, at 1630 Hrs. She has on board 1060 passengers. On arrival the ship will be berthed at Haddo Wharf and passengers will be disembarked immediately thereafter.
