Tele-ophthalmology centre inaugurated

The Hon’ble Lt. Governor, Prof Ram Kaspe inaugurated the Tele-Ophthalmology Centre at the G.B. Pant Hospital, Port Blair today. In his inaugural address, the Lt. Governor said that this centre would be of immense help in providing better eye care services to the islanders in general and the eye patients in particular as it will provide the facility of consultation with some of the best eye hospitals in the country.
The Lt. Governor further stated that alongwith the Tele-medicine facility, the Tele-ophthalmology facility would be an added advantage in the field of improving health care services in the islands.
Earlier, welcoming the chief guest and those present on the occasion, the Director of Health Services, Dr. N. Sadasivan informed that the Tele-ophthalmology centre will be equipped with all the modern equipment to provide better health care services to the islanders.
The function concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Rohinder Lal of G. B. Pant Hospital.
Application invited for allotment of Govt. Accommodation
The Housing & Estate Section, A & N Administration, Secretariat, has invited applications from Govt. employees of various department of A & N Administration with effect from 01.07.2005 to 31.07.2005 for allotment of Govt. accommodation. Prescribed application forms can be had from the H & E Section, Secretariat during office hours or the same can be downloaded from the website of the Administration http://www.and.nic.in/ No application will be entertained after expiry of last date viz. 31st July, 2005. The applicants shall also submit an undertaking alongwith the applications stating that the applicants have no house in his/her own name within the Municipal limit and 20 KMs from the outside boundary of the municipality.
Govt. servants who have submitted applications for allotment of Govt. accommodation under General Pool earlier may also apply afresh for being enlisted in the seniority list on the aforestated date.
Transport subsidy for export of handicrafts to foreign countries
The Directorate of Industries, A & N Administration under a plan scheme proposes to provide “100% transport subsidy for export of handicrafts to foreign countries (excluding banned seashell handicrafts)”. The scheme has been approved by Govt. of India.
The scheme envisages reimbursement of transport subsidy @ 100% for export of handicrafts to foreign countries against the freight charges incurred by an industrial unit for transportation of handicrafts (Excluding banned seashell items) by sea and road/rail between the location of the unit in A & N Islands to any recognised international port of a foreign country irrespective of their size which are set up on or after 01.04.2002 or to units which have gone in for substantial expansion on or after 01.04.2002.
The scheme shall be applicable to all form of organisation i.e. proprietorship, partnership, companies, Govt. Undertaking, cooperative, local bodies or in the form of joint ventures in A & N Islands.
Eligible industrial unit/cluster may submit their claim in the prescribed proforma. For further details intending units may contact the Programme Implementing Officer, Directorate of Industries, Room no.12A on working days during office hours or they may log on to www.and.nic.in
Elect Dept cautions public against electrocution in view of inclement weather
Efforts on to rectify faults; restore power supply
The Electricity Department of the Administration has cautioned the public not to touch electric poles and broken electric lines or carry out any repair works for fear of electrocution in view of the inclement weather.
The prevailing weather conditions have resulted in falling of trees, tree branches over transmission and distribution lines causing disruption in power supply in various parts of the islands.
The Department is taking all possible steps to clear tree branches over the T&D lines, repair faults and restore power supply in areas where it has been disrupted.
The staffs of the Department are on round the clock duty and information about faults, broken lines, and electric poles can be passed on to the nearest Site Office of the Department or to the Police Station/Police Outposts and Fire Brigade in the area for remedial action. They may also inform the respective Executive Engineer, Assistant Engineer, and Junior Engineer during office hours at their office telephone numbers and at their residences beyond office hours so as to enable them to take safety measures.
The Department has reports of broken transmission lines at Chakragaon, Dollygunj and Bambooflat causing disruption in power supply in these areas. The disruption in power supply in Port Blair and South Andaman is of severe nature and is likely to be rectified in next two days.
