Relief materials for Tsunami affected persons
The Hon’ble Mr. Justice N.A. Chaudhury, formerly Acting Chief Justice of Kolkata High Court and presently Chairman of AAIFR, New Delhi handed over relief materials to the Hon’ble Lt. Governor, Prof Ram Kapse, at a function held at Raj Niwas on May 21, 2005. The materials worth around Rs. 15 to 20 lakh are meant for distribution among the persons affected by earthquake/tsunami in the islands. It consists mostly of clothes for men, women and children and has been donated by the Calcutta Vastra Yyavasayi Seva Samithy.
Speaking on the occasion, the Hon’ble Lt. Governor thanked Mr. Justice N.A. Chaudhury and the Calcutta Vastra Vyavasayi Seva Samithy for the benevolent gesture towards the tsunami affected persons in the islands. He said that efforts were being made by the Administration in a planned manner for better development of the islands. The Lt. Governor also recalled the relief and assistance rendered by States for providing relief and succour to the affected persons. He further said that the pace of rehabilitation works reflects the support of the Govt. of India and the people of the islands.
The Hon’ble Mr. Justice N.A. Chaudhury, while speaking on the occasion, thanked the Calcutta Vastra Yyavasayi Seva Samithy and praised their efforts for collection of the materials.
Dr. Mamta Chaudhury also graced the occasion.
Shri Nand Kishor Bhutra, Secretary of the Samithy, said they were able to provide relief materials for the affected persons due to the guidance provided by Hon’ble Mr. Justice N.A. Chaudhury.
Earlier, the District and Sessions Judge, Shri Brindaban Mondal, welcomed the gathering.
Blood donation camp held
Blood Donation Camp and Traffic Rules Study Class was organised by the Dweep Auto Association at the Kerala Samajam hall on May 21, 2005. The Hon’ble Lt. Governor, Prof. Ram Kapse, inaugurated the camp and the class by lighting the oil lamp.
In his address on the occasion, the Lt. Governor lauded the efforts of the organisers in organising the camp in the larger interest of the society and hoped that they will carry on the good work in future as well.
Superintendent of Police, Shri A.K. Singh, conducted the classes in traffic education.
Dr. Tulsidasan, Project Director, ANACS, highlighted the advantages and importance of blood donation.
Twenty auto drivers donated blood on the occasion.
