Admn.constitutes state level monitoring committee

 

The A&N Administration has constituted a state-level committee to monitor the implementation of programme relating to the restoration of agriculture and other allied activities in A&N Islands.

 

The Development Commissioner will be the Chairman of the committee and Chairman, Tribal Council, Adhyaksh, Zilla Parishad, Chief Conservator of Forests (Planning), Deputy Commissioner (Andamans), Deputy Commissioner (Nicobars), Director, CARI, Head Soil Science Division, CARI, Head Crop Division, CARI, Head Horticulture Division, CARI, Director of AH & VS and Director of Fisheries will be its members. The Director of Agriculture apart from being a member of the committee will also be its convenor.

 

The Additional Commissioner/Deputy Commissioner (Crops), Min. of Agriculture, Govt. of India, New Delhi-1, Director (Horticulture), Min. of Agriculture, Govt. of India, New Delhi-1, Principal Scientist and Incharge, Regional Research Station, CSSRI, Canning, West Bengal and Chief Coconut Development Officer, Coconut Development Board, Kochi, Kerala will be special invitees to the committee.

 

The terms of reference of the committee are:

  1. The Committee will meet regularly to review the progress of the programme and give required directions for their implementation.
  2. The Central Agriculture Research Institute, Port Blair will provide technical backup for execution of the programme.
  3. The Committee will get the detailed survey on soils (fertility status), crop selection both on Agriculture and Horticulture including tuber crops done immediately through Technical Sub Committees.
  4. The Committee will also consider realistic estimate of the cost of all works to be undertaken at various places of Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
  5. The Committee will engage dedicated teams of technically qualified retired officers/experts/consultants for proper implementation of the programme.
  6. The Committee will also provide need based support for specific activities by hiring technically qualified people.
  7. The Committee will take necessary action to develop mangroves/barrier plants, Soil Conservation Measures and Minor Irrigation works required for proper restoration of land.

 

Restricted holiday on March 8

 

The Andaman & Nicobar Administration has declared 8th March, 2005 as a Restricted Holiday on account of Maha Shivratri. 

Additional allocation of Kerosene

 

The Govt. of India, Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, New Delhi has made additional  allocation of 700 KLs (545 Mts) of S.K.O for A & N Islands for meeting the situation arisen out of disaster caused by Tsunami of 26th December, 2004.

 

All the Fair Price Shop keepers are informed that scale for distribution of the S.K.O has been refixed by the Directorate of Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs for the month of February and March 2005. The Family Identity Card Holders of this Union Territory are now entitled to draw S.K.O as per the following scale from their respective Fair Price Shops.
