Andaman Tourism participates in TTF, New Delhi
The Directorate of Information, Publicity & Tourism, Andaman and Nicobar Administration, participated in the Travel and Tourism Fair, New Delhi held at Hotel Ashok during February 25th -27th 2005. Private sectors were also encouraged to participate and the Barefoot Group showcased their products at the Fair. The stall attracted a large number of business and general visitors, prominent among them, being Prof. Ram Kapse, Hon'ble Lt. Governor, A&N Islands, Shri Md. Jadwet, President, Andaman Chamber of Commerce, and members of the Andaman Tourism Guild. The Fair provided an ideal opportunity to relaunch Andaman Tourism in the national tourism circuit.
Police recovered stolen properties- Strait Island
During the absence of all the Great Andamanese and other departmental staff posted at Strait Island, who were evacuated after the earthquake followed by Tsunami occurred on 26.12.2004, their properties were stolen. Accordingly two theft cases, one case on the complaint of Ms. Shabnam, Tribal Welfare Officer R/o Campbell Bay who was earlier posted at Strait Island and another case on the complaint of Shri Jirake, Chief of Great Andamanese were registered at PS. Rangat. During the course of investigation of aforesaid both cases, nine accused persons involved in theft were arrested and the stolen articles were recovered from them at the initial stage. During the course of further investigation, five more accused persons namely (1) Ajit Kumar Lakra S/o Late Silvastar Lakra R/o Rangat (Driver of truck No. AN-3742), (2) P. Subbaiah S/o Late Palaniandi (65) R/o Anarkali, Port Blair (3) M. Raja S/o Late Muniyandi (30) R/o Anarkali, Port Blair (4) Shri C. Surya Kumar S/o Late R. Chandrapalan (50) Businessman R/o South Point, Port Blair and (5) Shri Kesav Hawaladar S/o Rajan Hawaladar, Private labour R/o Bharatpur, Rangat have been arrested and some more stolen properties also been recovered and the accused persons have been remanded to Judicial custody.
In the aforesaid both cases, 14 accused persons were arrested and the following stolen properties have been recovered by Police.
(1) MP-3 DVVCD with remote control -1 No. (2) 26” Suit case (Safari) -1 No. (3) Gas Cylinder -2 Nos. (4) Wall clock -1 No. (5) Canon Camera -1 No. (6) Plastic chair -22 Nos. (7) Tape with radio 2 in one -1 No. (8) Sound Box -1 No. (9) Wall Clock -1 No. (10) Air gun -1 No. (11) Plastic bucket (50 litres) -1 No. (12) GI bucket -1 No. (13) Iron dah -4 Nos. (14) Gunny bag containing new plastic rope –1 No. (15) Aluminium degchi -2 Nos. (16) Small steel tiphin box -1 No. (17) Pressure cooker -2 Nos. (18) Fishing line -11 Nos. (19) Fishing net -2 Nos. (20) Bantange -11 Nos. (21) Cassette of tape recorder -16 Nos. (22) Colour TV 21” with remote – 3 Nos. (1 Philip and 2 LG) (23) Kirloskar engine 5Hp – 1 No. (24) Hero cycle -1 No. (25) Usha sewing machine -2 Nos. (26) Diesel -4 drum (27) Empty drum -1 No. (28) Tin sheets -27 Nos. (29) GCI pipe pieces -58 Nos. 3Nos. engine dingies and one truck bearing No. AN-3742 which was used for transportation of the stolen articles have also been seized. This could be achieved due to strenuous efforts made by SHO Rangat and the staff of PS Rangat/OP Long Island.
