Kalasi Power House operational
Newly constructed Power House at Kalasi village in Teressa Island has become operational on April 16, 2005. This 15 KVA power house was inaugurated by Lt. Col. Vidya Sagar of the Corps of Engineers of the Indian Army. The Special Relief Officer, Shri Shanti Behari, First Captain of the village, Shri Athonai and others officers were present on the occasion. With the commissioning of this power house, power supply will be available to the entire village of Kalasi, adjacent camps and street lights and is also in a position to meet the future requirement of this village. The Captain and villagers expressed their gratitude to the Administration and the Electricity Department for providing the facility of electricity to the village.
Restoration of agricultural activities commences in Teressa
The restoration work of agricultural activities in the tsunami affected areas of Teressa Island commenced on April 17, 2005. Shri Shanti Behari, Special Relief Officer, planted a coconut seedling in Kalasi village marking the beginning of the restoration of agricultural activities as envisaged in the action plan of the Administration. He also distributed vegetable seeds to the villagers for taking up vegetable cultivation and revival of agricultural activities in their villages. The Agriculture Department also proposes to construct check dams and dig wells for the purpose of irrigation and drinking water supply and supply pumpsets. The Captains and villagers expressed their gratitude to the Administration and the Agriculture Department for taking quick measures for revival of agricultural activities and means of their livelihood.
Rehabilitation work gains further momentum in Teressa
Rehabilitation and reconstruction works have gained further momentum in Teressa with the arrival of vehicles, machineries and equipment. MV Pilopanja, a vessel of the Directorate of Shipping Services of the Administration which arrived at Teressa on April 17, 2005, unloaded one truck, two excavator-loader, one tractor, cables, generator etc. This would help in giving further impetus to the rehabilitation, track construction and reconstruction works there. Beaching of the vessel at Safed Balu and the unloading operations were conducted under the supervision of the staff of Port Management Board and the Directorate of Shipping Services.
