Checking spread of FMD

There has been an outbreak of Foot & Mouth Diseases in South Andaman among cattle, buffaloes, pigs and goats. The FMD is a highly contagious disease of livestock causing enormous economic loss. Although necessary vaccination and preventive measures have been taken in the affected areas, it is necessary to impose total ban on the movements of animals from South Andaman to other Islands and vice-versa to check any possible spread of the diseases through the carrier animals. Hence a total ban has been imposed on the transportation of animals from South Andaman to other Islands and vice-versa until the ban is lifted.
