The Lt Governor, Lt Gen (Retd) Bhopinder Singh, PVSM, AVSM, today handed
over the keys of 216 permanent shelters constructed at Onge Tikrey in
Little Andaman to the beneficiaries who lost their hard earned properties
during tsunami at a function organized here. Addressing the gathering, the
Lt Governor reiterated that the GoI and A&N Administration is making
all efforts to rehabilitate the affected families by providing permanent
shelters in a phased manner.
The Lt. Governor disclosed that a total of 965 shelters will be
constructed at Onge Tikrey and all basic facilities like road, power,
water, community hall, medical and shopping centres will be provided to
the residents to cater to their daily needs.
The Lt Governor expressed the hope that the occupants of the dwelling
units will keep the area clean and urged them to develop good relation
with their neighbours. He also urged the beneficiaries not to lease out
the shelters to third parties or on rent basis. The Lt Governor also
informed the gathering that few permanent shelters which are under
construction at Farm Tikrey in Little Andaman will be given to the
beneficiaries in the coming month.
Later, the Lt Governor interacted with the PRI Members in Hut Bay Guest
House along with the officers of A&N Administration on various issues
pertaining to development of the area.

Smti.Bhawanee Singh, the Chief Secretary(i/c), Shri. Arvind Ray,
Development Commissioner-cum-Secretary(R&R), Shri. Tapan Mandal,
Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman, Shri. S N Jha accompanied the Lt.
Governor on his visit to Little Andaman.

distributed few keys of the shelters to the beneficiaries on the occasion.
The Commissioner-cum-Secretary(R&R) on the occation briefed the
gathering about the project and the facilities to be offered to the
beneficiaries.
Earlier, the Pramukh, little Andaman, Shri. Joga Rao, Pradan, Shri. Palani,
PRI Members and local officers received the Lt.Governor on his arrival at Hut
