Republic Day Celebration - 2011
Message
On the 61st anniversary of our Republic Day, I extend my warm greetings and good wishes to the people of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Republic Day marks the advent of sovereignty in India as it was on this day back in 1950 when our Constitution came into existence. The country embarked on being a sovereign, Socialist, Secular and Democratic Republic so that it is guided by principles of Justice, Liberty, Equality and Fraternity. Therefore, it is our bounden duty as citizens to abide by these Commandments.
We can be justifiably proud of being the largest democracy in the world, where people from various castes, creeds and religions, live in harmony. The huge diversity that this country has in terms of Culture, Language, Social norms, Traditions and customs is an outstanding example of unity in diversity. Republic Day certainly is a grand occasion to celebrate this unity in diversity.
On this occasion I appeal to the people of Andaman and Nicobar Islands to imbibe the values enshrined in our Constitution andcontinue to strive to make India a strong and prosperous nation.
