Message On the happy occasion of the Republic Day, I extend my heartiest and warm greetings and best wishes to the people of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Republic Day, 59 years ago, the people of India gave to themselves a Constitution which seeks to secure for all its citizens, justice, social, economic and political; liberty of thought, expression, belief, faith and worship; and equality of status and of opportunity. 26th January is an occasion for us to rededicate ourselves to the values enshrined in our Constitution. The occasion provides us an opportunity to evaluate our past programmes and policies implemented for the welfare of the people and also to work with renewed vigour for faster development and progress for our Islands. Republic Day is also an occasion to pay homage to the heroes of our country's freedom struggle, who made heroic sacrifices to liberate the motherland from foreign rule. The multi-cultural and multi-lingual society of Andaman & Nicobar Islands living in peace and harmony is a shining example for the rest of the country. This composite culture is a reflection of unity amidst diversity that characterizes our country. This is the most precious asset of our Islands and needs to be preserved at all cost. On this occasion, Lt. Governor, Lt. General (Retd.) Bhopinder Singh appeal to all the people of our Islands to be on guard against divisive forces and stay united and strong. That is the only way forward for peace, progress and prosperity
Sd/- (Lt. Gen (Retd) Bhopinder Singh) Raj Niwas, Lieutenant Governor Port Blair Andaman and Nicobar Islands
