Screening camps for hearing impaired held
A new National Programme for Prevention & Control of Deafness, State Health Society, Directorate of Health Services was inaugurated by lighting of the lamp at ENT department, G. B. Pant Hospital on 26th August 2010. A screening camp for hearing impaired in collaboration with Madras ENT Research Foundation, Chennai was held on the same day under the supervision of Dr. Ashok Subramaniam, Joint Secretary (NPPCD), Directorate of Health Services. A team of three ENT Surgeons headed by Dr. Satya alongwith Mr. Ranjith, Audiologist & Speech Pathologist with his team, screened about 89 patients, including newborn babies and infants, who were thoroughly examined by the Specialists and also were advised preventive measures, and treatment. Some were advised to undergo surgery at G.B. Pant hospital. Audiological examination with sophisticated instruments like BERA, OAE was used to screen high risk newborn babies & infants. The programme assistant Ms. Kokila Ramakrishna assisted in documenting the screened patients. Similar camp was held in Dr. R. P. Hospital, Mayabunder, on 28th August 2010, under the supervision of District Nodal Officer Dr. S.K. Paul, Medical officer i/c North & Middle Andaman in which about 91 patients was screened.
Hindi Fortnight from Sep 1
The Andaman & Nicobar Administration has decided to organise "Hindi Fortnight" from 1st to 15th September, 201O in its offices and educational institutions. During the fortnight following programmes have been chalked out for officers, employees of the Administration and students.
1. The fortnight will start on 1st September, 2010 with an appeal of the Secretary (OL) to be published in newspapers wherein PRI members, government officers and employees will be requested to attend maximum of their official work in Hindi.
2. Banner about organising of Hindi Fortnight will be displayed in front of all the Govt offices.
3. On 02.09.2010 a Hindi workshop for Nodal Officer (OL), Translators and dealing Clerks of the various offices of the Administration will also be organised in Conference Hall, Secretariat, wherein they will be informed regarding use of Hindi in Offices and Annual Programme 2010-11 prescribed by GoI.
4. Essay competitions for Tamil, Telugu & Bangla medium students of Class VI to VIII and Class IX & X of Headquarter area will be organised on 03-09-2010.
5. Hindi typing competition for employees of the Administration will be organised on 06-09-2010 at Hindi Typing Centre, Secretariat.
6. Elocution competition for the students of all Senior Secondary School located at Headquarter area will be organised on 07.09.2010 at Tagore Govt. College, Port Blair.
7. Elocution competition for College students will be organised on 08.09.2010 at Tagore Govt. College, Port Blair.
8. Hindi Noting & Drafting competitions for the employees of A&N Administration will be organised on 09-09-2010 at Tagore Govt. College, Port Blair.
9. Hindi Noting and Letter Writing competition for Gazetted Officers of A&N Administration will be organised on 10-09-2010 at Conference Hall, Secretariat.
10. Documentary Films on Hindi the Official & link language of India will be shown in rural areas from 1st to 15th September, 2010.
11. The message of the Hon'ble Lt. Governor on the eve of Hindi Day will be telecast/broadcast through electronic media on 13th September, 2010.
12. On the eve of Hindi Day a Kavi Sammelan will be organised on 13th September, 2010 in which local poets will participate.
14. On 14th September, 2010 Information and Publicity Division of the Administration will publish a Hindi day special supplement in the Hindi daily "Dweep Samachar".
15. All Govt offices and Educational Institutions will celebrate 'Hindi day' on 14th September, 2010.
