Report on the visit of Secretary MIT to A&N Islands

The Secretary MIT Shri K K Jaswal has visited the A&N Islands from 9^th to 13^th Oct 2004 and reviewed the activities of NIC along with SIO, & Secretary IT Mr Anbarasu IAS on 11^th at Port Blair and then went to Car Nicobar to review the NIC activities in the Nicobar District along with the Dy Commissioner on 12^th. 

The Secretary MIT also visited the Development Communication Network (DCN) node of ISRO at Secretariat and also the Telemedicine centre  and the implementation of Health Information System in G B Pant Hospital by CDAC. Later he visited the Govt Polytechnic to see the distance education programme being done thro’ the ISRO VSAT network (DCN) to other 7 centers in the Islands. 

            The Secretary MIT also had detailed discussions on 12^th, with the Chief Secretary, Secretary IT and other higher officials on the various egovernance activities going on and planned in the future in A&N Islands and the setting up of Community Internet Centres (CIC) thro ‘ ERNET to link various islands and also to impart IT education in the selected schools thro’ these centers. 

The Secretary MIT has left the islands on 13^th October to Delhi via Kolkatta.
