Inauguration of Immigration Control System Software
at
Haddo
Sea Port, Port Blair
The
newly Computerized Immigration Control System (ICS) at Haddo Wharf was
inaugurated by the Special Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs, Shri R.K. Sharma
at a function held at its Passengers Hall on 4th July 2003. The Chief Secretary,
A
& N Administration, Shri Pradeep Singh presided over the function.
Addressing
the function, Shri Sharma said that with its inauguration today, these islands
have now achieved the distinction of having a modern system of immigration
control facility. He stressed the need for extending qualitative service to
foreign as well as domestic tourists. There is considerable increase in the
number of tourists to these islands and while, providing service, one must show
courtesy to them, he said. At the same time thorough checking, as a security
measure should also be conducted with warm and amiable behaviour the Special
Secretary added.
Speaking on
the occasion, the Chief Secretary, Shri Pradeep Singh complemented the
Department in its efforts to add yet another facility in the islands. He said
there is also need for extending security assistant in the inter islands service
so as to check illegal transaction of goods such as IMFL. Observing that these
islands are the abode of peace, the Chief Secretary said that by all peaceful
means such illegal practices have to be discouraged for security measures. He
expressed happiness that the ICS will be extended in the Veer Savarkar Airport
in due course.
In his
welcome address, the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Shri Sudhir Yadav
informed that the newly inaugurated ICS, developed by National Informatics
Centre, will provide information about foreign and domestic tourists beside
regulating their movement, control the movement of illegal immigrants and
provide faster operation with greater accuracy.
