The Lt. Governor, Prof. Ram Kapse reviewed the computerized operation  procedure of Immigration Wing of Port Blair Airport on 25-03-2004.  In a meeting held with the Inspector General of Police, Shri A.K. Verma, Foreign Registration Officer and Supdt. of Police, Andaman District    Shri A.K. Singh, the Lt. Governor underlined the importance of complete networking of immigration for minimizing delays in immigration clearance without compromise on principles of sound security.

The Lt. Governor visited the arrival and departure counters and ascertained the details of their functioning from the concerned staff.  Later, the Foreign Registration Officer and NIC Officials led by Shri M. Manivannan gave a computer presentation to the Lt. Governor on Immigration Control, aspects of computerization work and future plans.

The immigration officials explained to the Lt. Governor that the introduction of the computerization of immigration commenced with the inauguration of the special chartered flights that came from Bangkok during the week.  As a result of the same, immigration formalities for visiting tourists were speeded up in considerable measure and Restricted Area Permits (RAP) were issued without any hitch.

Appreciating the initiative taken by A&N Police in speedy implementation of computerization, the Lt. Governor has called for appropriate improvements for further facilitating immigration services to international tourists.  He suggested to airport authorities to assist in extension of immigration counters and allocation of additional space for smooth passenger movement.

The Lt. Governor hoped that online immigration checks and connectivity with other immigration check posts across the country would materialize soon.  It may be mentioned that the Immigration Control at Haddo Sea Port has already been computerized over six months ago, a communication from the Superintendent of Police, Andaman District said here.
