62nd Independence Day Celebration - 2008
Greetings
On the auspicious occasion of the 61st Anniversary of our glorious Independence, I extend my heartiest greetings and good wishes to the people of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Independence Day reminds us of the great sacrifices made by our brave and courageous freedom fighters who got us independence from colonial rule on this fateful Day in 1947. I would like to remind my fellow citizens of Andaman and Nicobar Islands the monumental role freedom fighters played in the struggle for freedom. The Cellular Jail bears testimony to the heroic deeds of sacrifices of the immortal islanders, who were incarcerated in the Jail and actively participated in the freedom struggle.
On this solemn occasion I join the whole country along with Andaman and Nicobar Islands to pay tribute and homage to all those great men and women whose supreme sacrifices brought us freedom. Let us take a pledge on this Day to uphold the honour and dignity of our country in the days to come. I am confident that our Islands will march on the path of progress and development in the years ahead.
