Hon’ble Lt.Governor inaugurates Island Tourism Festival 2010

 

                                                                                                                                                                                        

The Hon’ble Lt. Governor, Lt Gen (Retd) Bhopinder Singh, PVSM, AVSM  inaugurated the Island Tourism Festival (ITF)-2010 on 7th January,2010, an annual cultural extravaganza organized to showcase the Islands as an emerging world class tourist destination. The Lt. Governor also released the literature pertaining to A&N Tourism Policy and Tourism Information handbook on the occasion. The First Lady of these Islands , Smt Bhawanee Singh also graced the occasion. Organized under the aegis of the Tourism Department at the exhibition ground located at VIP Road , Port Blair, the tourism festival showcases the developmental activities of the A&N Administration in various fields besides cultural programmes presented by artists from mainland as well as local orchestras. 

 

Inaugurating the event, the Lt Governor said that the annual tourism festival is the most awaited festival in the Islands and is organized with the twin objective of showcasing the developmental activities taking place in these islands and also to attract people across the country and the globe to visit these Islands .  The Lt Governor further said that in order to develop tourism sector in a big way, the Administration has taken up a number of mega tourism projects. These projects, once completed will change the islands as the most sought after tourism destination in the world, he said. Our tourism policy is very environmental friendly and tourism here is being developed in such a manner that besides generating revenue, it provides employment to the islanders, the Lt Governor added. The Lt Governor further said that besides tourism sector, the Administration has already framed roadmap for development of other sectors as well by launching a number of projects in sectors such as fisheries, agriculture etc and in the next few years, the islands will witness inclusive growth. Our endeavor is to provide the fruits of development to all the people and to make these islands self-sufficient in all respect, he said. The Lt Governor also noted with appreciation that during the tourism festival, artists from mainland and the islands will present cultural programmes at various ITF venues.

 

A colourful cultural programme was also presented on the occasion.
