MISSION

We sincerely commit overselves to the service of the people and long term conservation of nature and natural resources of these islands. We also commit ourselves to totally safeguard the tropical evergreen forests of these islands in such a way that the conservation of biodiversity can be ensured along with sustained availability of goods and services from the forests.

OBJECTIVE

To conserve the biodiversity of the forests of these islands.

To protect wild flora and fauna found in these islands especially the endemic species which are found only in these islands.

To establish and manage protected area network for long term conservation of biodiversity and gene pool resources in suit.

To conserve marine biodiversity of these islands specially coral reef around these islands.

To manage the forest of these islands on the basis of sound principles of silviculture and sustainability.

To provide raw material to the local forest based industries.

To provide swan timber to public and artisans at reasonable rates from government saw mills.

To carry out silviculture research for sustainable management of our forest.

To protect the forest and wild life wealth from local and foreign poachers.

To enforce Indian Forest Act 1927, Wildlife (Protection) Act 1972, Environment (Protection) Act 1986, Forest (Conservation) Act, 1980 and Coastal regulation Zone Notification 1991 and rules made thereunder in Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

 

LIST OF SERVICES PROVIDED BY THE FOREST DEPARTMENT TO THE PEOPLE

Raising Seedling/ Saplings of forest species for distribution to public for planting in their private lands.

Creation of awareness among the public about the forests and forest resources and their role in preservation of ecological balance and environmental stability.

To train and guide public in raising plantation of timber and other species of plants for  environmental and economic benefits.

Providing timber to the public on payment of royalty/ free of royalty for construction/ repair of the house under the relevant rules.

Providing minor forest produce on payment of royalty/ free of royalty to the public for their bonafide use under relevant rules.

Issuing transit passes for transportation of forest produce under the relevant rules in force.

Providing swan timber to the public at reasonable rates from government saw mills.

Providing amenities to the visitors at various national parks and the zoo managed by the Department of environment and Forests.

Providing amenities at various forest rest houses situated in Protected areas viz. Mount Harriet, Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park Wandoor, Cinque Islands and Biological Park, Chidyatapu. These amenities are subject to restrictions imposed by Andaman & Nicoabr Administration, Govt. of India.

Allotment of sand and regulation of collection and transit of sand as per sand mining plan approved by Andaman & Nicobar Administration.

Payment of compensation to the farmers in lieu of damage caused to their corps/ property by departmental elephants.

Regulation of exportation of swan timber out of these islands.

The conservator of forest (Southern Circle) acts as Nodal Agency for processing and forwarding the proposals involving diversion of forests land for non forest purposes under Forest (Conservation) Act, 1980.

The Conservator of Forests (Headquarter Circle) act as Member Secretary Coastal Zone Management Authority which is Nodal Agency for forwarding the proposals for obtaining clearance under CRZ Notification 1991.
