Lt. Gen (Retd.) Bhopinder Singh has taken over as new Lt. Governor on 29/12/2006

 

 

         Lt. Gen (Retd.) Bhopinder Singh, PVSM, AVSM has been taken oath as the Lt. Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands on 29th December, 2006. The swearing-in-ceremony has been taken at 11.45 hrs at Raj Niwas on 29th December, 2006.

 

        Lt. Gen (Retd.) Singh brings with him 41 years of experience in Administrative, Instructional and Operational assignments with the Indian Army. Some of the coveted assignments handled by him include stints as the Director General of Military Training, Provost  Marshall and as the Military Secretary to the President of India. Lt. Gen (Retd.) Singh had the fortune of serving under Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam and Late President Shri K.R. Narayanan. Lt. Gen (Retd.) Singh has also commanded the troops in the Indo-Pak wars in 1965 and 1971 and has led counter insurgency operations in Jammu & Kashmir, Mizoram & Assam. Lt. Gen (Retd.) Singh was the Colonel of the Rajput Regiment, one of India’s most decorated regiments, the President Bodyguards and the Army Physical Training Corps.

       Lt. Gen (Retd.) Singh was also posted as the Military, Naval and Air Attache for East & Southern Africa, based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Lt. Gen (Retd.) Singh has been decorated with the PVSM, the highest military award for distinguished service, and the AVSM, the second highest award for distinguished service. Lt. Gen (Retd) Singh has also been honoured with the Army Commanders Commendation and the Ethiopian Government Commendation Certificate.

 

       Lt. Gen (Retd.) Singh is an avid sports enthusiast with interests in outdoor adventure activities. His other interest lies in matters pertaining to Defence, Security, Polity & Geo-Strategic affairs.
